Norse Pigments

The Vesterheim Museum and the Norwegian-American database provided information on the specific pigments used in traditional Norwegian rosemaling (a folk painting technique used on domestic objects). All the paintings in this series are made with Cinnabar, Orpiment, Lithopone, Red Barite, Ultramarine, Luberon Raw Umber, Minimum, Yellow Ochre, and Black Oxide.

The Skew Series (2D)

The Skew Series riffs off the behavior of bending rings of light in Newton’s Rings. Each piece is a caricature, of a scene or interaction, being squeezed through a lens and split into continuous contorting colors. They are a meditation on distortions in perception caused by desire, ambition and unconscious schemas. The paint is hand-made with tempera, casein and pigments – on a ground of milk, sand and spit.
